Learn how to make DIY no-sew farmhouse curtains for your home the most affordable way! No sewing required- it’s almost too easy. As in, I almost didn’t even make this post because of how simple the steps are-ha!
I love making a house a home.
When Hunter and I got married in 2013, (read our story here) we were BROKE. I don’t mean “aww, they’re a new couple, they’re getting on their feet, that’s cute..” broke, I mean we were both working jobs that barely paid our bills kind of broke-haha.
As a new wife, I still remember going to Sam’s Club for the first time, and wondering how in the WORLD everything added up so quickly and sneaking things back onto the shelf…..(truthfully, I still do this-ha).
When we closed on our first home, I remember having such a sense of pride in that was our HOME. We walked on plywood floors the first year, but it was OURS! I was working nights at a hospital, and Hunter was working for a local tiling company in our church. That time holds some of our sweetest memories.
I loved making that house into a home. But I definitely had to do it on a BUDGET. A budget wasn’t really new to me though. Growing up in a single-mom household with three kiddos, budgeting was very familiar to me.
Garage sales were our jam. My mother would take us around on Saturdays and we would find alllll the treasures. I still remember learning to haggle at an eeearly age. As in, if a kid that young was trying to haggle with me at my garage sale now, I’d probably be straight up annoyed. But it would also probably work, and work it did back then -haha!
I learned quickly you could still have just as much quality for less. This idea definitely helped me make my first house into a cozy memory-making home.
Curtains are EXPENSIVE.
I mean, WHY. When we began to decorate our first home, I felt like the retail price of curtains were outrageous. I still do-ha!
I have ALWAYS loved a good farmhouse style. Even before we moved to the farm, the whole Magnolia vibe was definitely ME. So when I knew I wanted this style, I knew I was gonna have to figure something out.
I was able to make four windows of curtains for under $40.
It begins with canvas painter’s drop cloth
I went to my closest home improvement store which was Home Depot. Asked for where the painter’s drop cloth was located. The picture above is the exact product I purchased. Canvas painter’s drop cloth. The edges are already hemmed and everything!
